Dr. Hongyan Ma

Bio

Hongyan Ma is an associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering in Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T). He received his Bachelor’s degree in Inorganic Non-metallic Material Engineering and Bachelor’s degree in Law from Chongqing University (China), Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from Shenzhen University (China), and PhD in Civil Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST, 2013). Before joining Missouri S&T in October 2015, he worked as a Post-doctoral Fellow in HKUST. Dr. Ma’s current research interests include next-generation cements, functional materials, biotechnology in construction, smart systems for testing and evaluation, multi-scale characterization and modeling of concrete properties, concrete deterioration and damage mitigation, etc. Dr. Ma has published over 70 refereed papers, of which 66 appear on international journals. These publications have received >1900 citations, with an h-index of 26. He is an editorial board member of three journals, and an active reviewer for 40 prestigious journals, including Cement and Concrete Research, Cement & Concrete Composites, Construction and Building Materials, Journal of Physical Chemistry C, PCCP, Applied EnergyACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, etc. Dr. Ma received the 2017 ASCE ExCEEd Fellowship, 2019 Joseph H. Senne Jr. Academy of Civil Engineers Faculty Scholarly Achievement Award, College of Engineering and Computing Dean’s Scholar, and Missouri S&T Faculty Research Award.
