CIES Seminar - guest speaker from spain

Friday, April 27, 2018
2:30p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
121 Butler-Carlton (Civil Engineering) Hall

Presenter: Dr.Miguel A. Vicente
Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering
University of Burgos (Spain)

Topic: "Building Bridges Between Engineers”"

Abstract: During the last 20 years, Prof. Vicente has collaborated with several engineers from other disciplines (aeronautics, mechanics, etc.) in collaborative projects. The seminar will show some of the most interesting projects undertaken and how civil engineers can learn a lot about the know-how of other engineering disciplines, and vice versa.

Dr. Vicente is interested in exploring international collaborations in the following research areas:

  1. Fatigue of concrete, both small specimens and structural elements.
  2. Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (steel, plastic, glass, carbon, etc).
  3. The use of CT-Scan technology to analyze the internal microstructure and the correlation with the macroscopical response: crack patterns, air-entrainedconcrete, fiber orientation and distribution.
  4. Structural health monitoring and in-field instrumentation.
